Job Purpose
The purpose of the role is to provide administrative and research support to the Wellcome Trust funded Glasgow Medical Humanities Network, working closely with the Network Director, Dr Gavin Miller. The role requires expert knowledge in the area of medical humanities and a knowledge of the funding environment. The role will include regularly updating the Glasgow Medical Humanities Network online hub with new members, projects, collections, etc. by reviewing and transferring information from pro formas filled in by network members. The role will require regular updating of the Network’s social media, alongside effective organisation of meetings and events, and administration of the seed fund application and review process. The role will also involve assisting the Director in authoring the final project report, building collaborative relationships with key partners, and training and mentoring of less experienced Network members.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  1. To act as a first point of contact for queries relating to the Network from researchers, academic and other colleagues and outside agencies including journalists and members of the general public etc. To resolve issues independently, referring to the Network Director only where necessary.
  2. Collaborate and establish partnerships with colleagues and participate in meetings, seminars, and workshops across the project and in the academic and civic community.
  3. Assist the Network Director in the discovery and co-creation of Glasgow’s distinctive medical humanities vision and community, to be detailed in the final project report.
  4. To organise conferences, events, seminars and other activities for the Network, liaising with staff, speakers, University Services and outside agencies as appropriate.
  5. To regularly update the Network’s social media, including the blog and Twitter account. Being responsible for content and ensuring compliance with appropriate branding guidelines.
  6. To be responsible for the co-ordination and updating of Glasgow Medical Humanities Network online hub with new members, projects, collections, etc. by transferring relevant information from network members.
  7. Where appropriate contribute to the mentoring and training of undergraduate and/or postgraduate students and less experienced members of the network.
  8. Keep up to date with current knowledge and recent advances in medical humanities.
  9. Engage in personal, professional and career development to enhance both specialist and transferable skills in accordance with desired career trajectory.
  10. To undertake any other reasonable duties as assigned by the Network Director.

Standard Terms & Conditions
Salary will be on the Management, Professional and Administrative Grade, level 6, £28,660 – £32,236 per annum, pro rata.

This post is part time (2.5 hours per week, Monday: 09:00-11:30) and has funding available until January 2022.

New entrants to the University will be required to serve a probationary period of 6 months.
