Mr. William Allen
1st Year PhD Student
I took my BA and MPhil degrees at the University of Cambridge, before joining the University of Glasgow as a PhD student in 2018.
Research and Teaching Interests
My thesis, supervised by Dr. Stephen Burn, is titled 'Sonic Neurologies: Sound and Schizophrenia in the works of David Foster Wallace and Richard Powers.' It listens to the intersections between sound and neurological disorder in contemporary American fiction. I am currently working on how phenomenologies of 'schizophrenic' language and experience might amplify certain textual sound-effects heard throughout Powers's texts.
