Professor James Chalmers

Professor James ChalmersRegius Professor of Law
James Chalmers was appointed to the Regius Chair of Law in 2012, having previously taught at the Universities of Edinburgh and Aberdeen. He is a graduate of the University of Aberdeen and the Tulane University of Louisiana and has taught on a visiting basis at the Universities of Baltimore, Cape Town and Maryland. He was a visiting researcher at Queen Mary, University of London in the spring of 2007 and at Uppsala University in the autumn of 2014.

Research and Teaching Interests

James Chalmers researches primarily in the area of criminal law and criminal justice. Following work on the criminalisation of HIV transmission, he carried out a broader project on legal responses to HIV and AIDS, funded by the AHRC and resulting in the publication of a monograph in 2008 (Legal Responses to HIV and AIDS, Hart Publishing).
