I have recently completed my Lord Kelvin Adam Smith-funded PhD, an inter-disciplinary project entitled ‘”Melancholy and low spirits are half my disease”: physical and mental health in the life and works of Robert Burns’. This allowed me to bring together my background in the sciences (BSc Pharmacology) and arts (BA English Language and Literature; MA English) to undertake a novel exploration of one of the most significant figures of the Scottish literary and cultural landscape.

I am currently exploring further work drawn from my thesis, as well as projects in Scottish book history, textual editing, and acting as editorial assistant for the forthcoming Blackwell Companion to Scottish Literature.
