Seeing Our History
This is an RNIB Scotland project which traces the lives and experiences of ‘outdoor blind’ people in Edinburgh, the Lothians and the Borders during the Edwardian period. Assisting with the project was a team of research volunteers who investigated subjects in the National Records of Scotland. A book, Feeling Our History , was published in 2015 in various formats to enable maximum accessibility to people with sight loss. The title encapsulates the personal experiences of individuals investigated and also the important role of raised type to the Missions to Outdoor Blind who endeavoured to engage with them. Podcasts have been made with Insight Radio (accessible through the website), and a second book to accompany the podcasts, Hearing Our History , is being prepared for publication.
