Jungian Psychology in Literature (Comparative Literature)

Lecturer: Laura Martin

I teach on the psychology of Jung in various contexts, either on the MLitt in Comparative Literature or on the Honours Corse Courses ‘Intercultural Readings’ and ‘Theories of Reading’. In these lectures, I try to get across some basics of Jungian psychology as they relate to the reading of literature, i.e. ‘universals’ versus particulars in literary production. I also lecture on Freud, especially on his idea of the Uncanny, but also the Oedipus Complex and all that in relation to story plotline/heroic myth.
